About us

Welcome at the Clinical Division of Oncology!

The Clinical Division of Oncology within the Department of Medicine I at the General Hospital and the Medical University Vienna ranks among internationally leading institutions in the field of research and treatment of malignancies. Similar to the organisation at international centres – particularly in the United States of America – we have defined programs for the diagnosis and treatment of specific tumor entities thus guaranteeing that every patient receives state-of-the-art treatment according to internationally defined standards. Within the framework of scientific work and in fulfilling the assignment of a university, we are in the position to offer participation in a multitude of clinical trials which serve not only to maintain access to modern treatment modalities, but also to develop novel treatment modalities in a controlled manner based on ethical principles and according to standards of Good Clinical Practice (GCP).

In context with our vision and as a consequence from our medical activities, we are aiming at the improvement of survival rates and at the amelioration of quality of life of our patients. Apart from optimal diagnosis and medical treatment, the preservation of human dignity independent of age, gender, social background, ethnicity, religion, nationality and sexual orientation constitutes our highest goal. All of our patients receive appreciation of their individuality and self-determination. Parallel to therapeutic onsets, we – together with diagnostic institutions present within the framework of the General Hospital and the Medical University Vienna – offer diagnostic procedures on the highest international level.

Coworkers of the Clinical Division of Oncology participate in international boards, editorial committees, are active in the pursue of clinical trials which are being widely published and are – in most instances in leading positions – part of the international scientific community in clinical oncology.

Finally, our dedication to quality is mirrored in the constant adjustment of internationally accepted therapies together with the award the Quality Management Certificate according to ISO 9001:2008.

As a member of the Comprehensive Cancer Center (CCC), the Clinical Division of Oncology is involved in numerous clinical activities and research cooperations.
